Michael’s primary expertise is achieving social impact through improving organizational effectiveness. Trained in Organization Development, he has worked as a philanthropy executive, a management educator and a consultant with more than 30 years’ experience coaching and leading organizations to be more responsive, efficient and humanistic.
Most recently, in addition to his consulting practice, Michael chaired the Management Programs at Milano School of Policy, Management and Environment at The New School, helping students develop expertise in not-for-profit and change management. Prior to this, he was a leader at Robin Hood Foundation for a decade and a half, first leading the capacity building function for its grantee community partners. As Director of Management Assistance, Michael developed and delivered a full range of management services to these partners through an internal consulting staff, grants to external providers and pro bono services from top management firms. Later, as Chief Administrative Officer, he led all back-end functions of the foundation including finance, human capital, technology, legal affairs, strategic planning and performance monitoring. In this role, he also served as staff to Robin Hood’s board of directors, facilitating long-range and intermediate planning and seeing to the execution of Board directions.
Michael’s consulting clients include NeighborWorks America, New York City Employees’ Retirement Systems, Fiscal Management Associates, UNICEF, The Ford Foundation, The Girl Scouts of the USA, and the American Red Cross. He has also taught at Columbia Business School’s Institute for Non-Profit Management. He holds a Master of Science degree in Organization Development from Pepperdine’s Graziadio Business School, an MA in Theology from the Catholic University of America, and a BA in Modern Language from the University of Utah.
