Sideya Sherman is currently serving as the NYC Chief Equity Officer & Commissioner of the new NYC Mayor’s Office of Equity & Racial Justice, where she leads the city’s effort to advance equity through policy, practice, and programs that serve New Yorkers. Sherman brings nearly two decades of equity-focused community and economic development experience, most recently serving as Commissioner of the NYC Mayor’s Office of Equity (MOE), Executive Director of the city’s NYC Taskforce on Racial Inclusion & Equity (TRIE), and Executive Vice President for Community Engagement and Partnerships at the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). Before her career in government, Sherman worked in the non-profit sector, gaining significant equity-focused community and economic development experience at both a local and national scale. Sherman is a lifelong New Yorker. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Utica College and a Master of Science degree in urban affairs from Hunter College.
